BLACK WOMEN AND FAKE HAIR

A friend of mine sent me a text reminiscing of the days when weaves and wigs were as he said, "a stripper/prostitute or old lady on Sunday church thing,".  I agree; the fake hair amongst Black women is out of control.  That movie Good Hair was an embarrassment with those silly women expressing sentiments like they would not pay their rent but would spend $800 on Indian Remi hair.  I don't mind weaves so much  if they are done correctly(very few are) but I hate women who attach Indian silky hair to their overly kinky hair.  The effect is so cheap, unrealistic and unattractive.  People are lying to you; I confess I have lied too--it doesn't look nice or real!

Yes, I am aware that other races of women wear extensions but not as extensively.  I'll bet money if you grab a random sampling of other race women off the street and went digging in their head for tracks very few of them in proportion would be wearing false hair.

  1. I couldn't agree more but the fact that I do not like fake hair doesn't mean I control the choices of others. People in the most part have decided to follow societal trends than be realistic. It is also pathetic how in the name of looking beautiful our women mutilate their hair and then use the excuse of getting bald due to mutilation to carry on fake hair. All said and done the choice rests with the individual. My take - be real, be proud and be happy.

  2. Weaves and wig don't make anyone look more beautiful. That's a delusional lie. I can't count how many times I've seen a woman take off the wigs and weaves and rock her short, long, natural, relaxed, whatever hair and thought to myself: Wow, she is really good looking before she looked so common...

  3. Willie Lynch. Hate Yo Self if you dont look like us. I wonder what white people really think when they see a sista with long "flowing" hair? Im going to ask a few white women to get their honest opinion and I'll post back. And not to say what they say even matters but to get an outsiders perspective is always helpful.

  4. Yes weave gives black women another look that which of course is not truly theirs. Its so easy to pretend but in actuality who really are you and at the end of the day how do you really look.I think all the money and effort and time black women put into making Chinese people rich and worrying about how pretty they want to look superficially could be invested into the care and health of their side Burns, breakage and promoting hair growth along with self esteem classes and working on poor self image because in all fairness the average black woman has self esteem problems due to society, and family upbringing. Black women do not know what real beauty is most of them think it consists of baby hair long silky hair a pointy nose, slanted eyes, nigga cheek bones and a big booty.True beauty is more then those things. We as black women need to embrace our natural beauty then shall we be free from the past, and the present.you cannot instill in others what you don't gave instilled in you.......Horrez

  6. I have more of a problem when they look obviously fake. When I can tell that you have fake hair from 20 feet a way that is a no-go. I wear weaves or wigs from time to time. They are never of a texture that is too off from my hair. They are never of a color that is outlandish compared to my skin tone. They are never of a length that calls you to question...ie down to my hips...but I can pull off mid shoulder blade all day.

  7. I don't care how good it looks, I can almost always detect a weave. I hate all weaves and wigs. They make sistas look foolish. Unless a woman has a medical condition there is no excuse. We should all consider learning to take care of our own hair instead of some Indian woman's cast offs. That is due partly to genetics and partly due to the fact that Indian woman take GREAT PRIDE in their OWN hair. Even the poorest of them knows how to take are of her crowing glory. That Indian woman will grow her hair back in two years without a second thought. We black women may not all be able to get to those extreme lengths, but I believe that with proper care, almost any black woman can grow her hair far past her shoulders.
